IFTAR
Our school enjoyed a vibrant whole‑school Iftar celebration, giving learners the opportunity to explore and appreciate an important tradition observed during Ramadan. As part of the session, we discussed the meaning of Iftar as the meal that Muslims use to break their fast at sunset, and we explored why this moment holds such significance within the Islamic faith.
Children were encouraged to try a range of traditional foods linked to Iftar, including biryani, samosas, flatbreads, dates, and sweet treats. We also talked about the cultural practice of beginning the fast‑breaking with curdled milk or yogurt drinks, reflecting on how this is considered gentle on the stomach after a day of fasting and is linked to long‑standing traditions in some Muslim communities.
The celebration created an engaging learning experience, allowing pupils to:
Explore key aspects of Ramadan and Iftar
Taste a variety of new foods linked to global cultures
Develop understanding of religious diversity and shared community values
Learn about hospitality, gratitude, and the importance of coming together to share a meal
It was a warm, inclusive event that supported pupils’ cultural understanding while bringing our school community together.
